“Noam Vazana is one of the few artists to whom the term ‘exceptional talent’ actually applies”
—Nürnberger Nachrichten, Germany
Multilingual, multi-instrument, multi-genre virtuoso Nani Noam Vazana joins us live from her home in Amsterdam. Her hypnotizing vocals breathe new life into jazz, flamenco, North African, Sephardic, and Ladino traditional songs. Noam’s grandmother spoke Ladino, an ancient language, preserved by only 150 families worldwide. Forbidden by her father to speak Ladino, the only means for Noam to communicate with her grandmother was through singing. Her voice is mesmerizing: pure and simple, powerful and precise, and imbued with the traditions and the emotional journey of the migrant people who first took their culture across the globe following the Jewish expulsion from Spain in the 15th century.
“Nani’s virtuoso musicianship is remarkable but even more, her ability to put a spell on the audience”
—Roccella Jonica Jazz, Italy
This program will be offered for free and is broadcast live from the artists’ living room to yours, hosted by TIOH Arts & Culture’s artistic director Diana Wyenn.
