Rediscovered Voices

December 9 @ 7:00 pm

Featuring Queertet, LA Choral Lab, pianist Michael Alfera, and soprano Shelly Fox

Experience a stirring evening of music for piano, voice, and strings by composers Alexander Zemlinsky, Gideon Klein, Viktor Ullman, Berthold Schmidt, and more. Famous in their time and poised to inherit and continue the long legacy of famous and highly valued German composers like Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms, they and their music were nearly silenced forever because they were of Jewish heritage in Germany in the 1930s. This diverse program, curated by Temple Israel of Hollywood’s Cantorial Soloist and Music Director Shelly Fox, presents a rare opportunity to hear a survey of instrumental and vocal works by these “rediscovered” composers which will inspire and influence for generations to come.
