Rachael Cerrotti: The Bridges Weren’t Burned
In 2009, Rachael Cerrotti, a college student pursuing a career in photojournalism, asked her grandmother Hana: Will you tell me your story? What happened next launched Rachael’s decade-long quest to retrace Hana’s history. However, somewhere along the way, the distinction between their unique stories blurred, and Rachael fell so deep into her grandmother’s life that it became the foundation of her own. A collection of archival photos and contemporary photography taken by Rachael while meeting the characters from her grandmother’s story, this exhibition explores how the retelling of family stories becomes history itself and how acts of kindness can echo across generations.
This exhibition is presented as part of Rachael Cerrotti’s month-long residency at Temple Israel of Hollywood. To check out a full list of residency programs, including a family history archiving workshop, click here.
