Rediscovered Voices
December 9, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

Featuring Queertet, LA Choral Lab, pianist Michael Alfera, and soprano Shelly Fox
Experience a stirring evening of music for piano, voice, and strings by composers Alexander Zemlinsky, Erwin Schulhoff, Viktor Ullman, and more. Well known in their time and part of the long legacy of important European composers like Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, and Mahler, they and their music were nearly silenced forever because they were of Jewish heritage in the 1930s. This dynamic program, crafted by Temple Israel of Hollywood’s Cantorial Soloist and Music Director Shelly Fox, presents a rare opportunity to hear inspiring works by these “rediscovered” composers, and become part of the movement to reinstate them in their rightful place in music history.
