Have a shoebox full of old family photos you’ve been meaning to catalog? Want to record your grandparent sharing the family legend? There are as many ways to tell a family story as there are family stories. Join Rachael Cerrotti, the inaugural Storyteller-in-Residence for USC Shoah Foundation, for a hands-on exploration of all the different ways to document our personal histories and preserve memories for the next generation.
Whether you are excited about the spoken word, written word, photography, or other multimedia approaches to telling stories, this 3-session course includes a combination of inspiration, conversation, and writing, and each hour-long session will leave you having made progress in documenting a family story. Storytellers of all ages are welcome, as well as individuals and families.
“[Rachael] has a natural gift for storytelling. With people like Rachael teaching the next generation, one can only be optimistic that the students of today and tomorrow will not just learn history, but learn from history.” —Bent Melchior (z”l), Chief Rabbi Emeritus of Denmark, Author & Holocaust Survivor
The workshop will be conducted online via Zoom over three Sundays in February, and the final session will also be available in-person with Rachael at Temple Israel of Hollywood for those based in Los Angeles and fully vaccinated.
This workshop is presented as part of Rachael Cerrotti’s month-long residency at Temple Israel of Hollywood. To check out a full list of residency programs, including a photography exhibition and author talk, click here.
